SALEM - George Thurber Morley, 78, passed away suddenly at his home in Salem, Ore., on March 31, 2005. George was born in Johnson City, NewYork, on January 12, 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S Shubrick which was attacked by enemy aircraft and received extensive damage. Statesman Journal May 27, 2002

George spent the last several years creating the award-winning website, www.ussshubrick.com, documenting the historic event.

George married the love of his life, Ordell Lunden, in Long Beach, Calif., on October 12, 1946. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ordell; his children, Bonnie Pittson of Kirkland, Wash., Diane Avery of Shelton, Wash., Cindy Rask of Spokane, Wash., and Dale Morley of Seattle, Wash.; brothers, Al Morley of Binghamton, N.Y. and Ralph Morley of Oneonta, N.Y.; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

George took delight in his family and was a loving husband, father, and grandpa. He will always be remembered for his love of life and his generosity.

Visiting will be held at 8:30 a.m., Mon., April 4 at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Mon., April 4, 2005 at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
